Neurofeedback

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback  that uses realtime displays of EEG to illustrate and receive feedback about brain activity with a goal of improving our brain plasticity and ability to regulate all bodily functions.

What is EEG?

EEG (Electroencephalogram), also known as brainwave. Brainwave is  activated rhythm as a result of electrical signal generated while transferring info among brain cell.

Through capturing the electical signal in cerebral cortex (human scalp), we can obtain a regular rhythm by way of mental activity status.

So in other words, EEG is presentation of a brain’s activity.

How does Neurofeedback work?

Our brains, the controllers of our bodies, are intricate systems of chemical and electrical activities with about 100 billion neurons. While we know a lot about how the brain works, there is still a lot to learn. What we do know is that the brain is designed to adapt to changes in the body and our environment and function well at all times. Brain is designed to adapt to changes in the body and our environment and function well at all times. However, for a variety of reasons- genetics and environment- the brain gets “out of whack”, so to speak, and does not function as well as it is able. The brain then becomes “dys-regulated”.

Simply put, a dys-regulated brain tends to be over-stimulated when it is supposed to be calm and under-stimulated when it is supposed to be attentive. Sometimes, the brain self-corrects. When it doesn’t, this dys-regulation becomes “the new normal”. So it makes sense that we should be able to re-train the brain to function optimally, the way it was designed. When your brain is better regulated, it allows you to change behaviors and thoughts. So how does neurofeedback work to help you regain your life? First, neurofeedback can assess the functioning of your brain, which is different from an MRI or CT scan that look at the structure. Through assessments, this therapy can locate the specific location, neural hub, and electrical frequency that is not functioning properly. This information ought to be shared with you. From this assessment, the method, or methods of treatment are specifically designed to help the brain repair itself.

Neurofeedback works by providing feedback to the brain so it can heal itself through neuroplasticity. This is done through sound, lights and computer games. Neurofeedback is similar to a vocal coach listening to you sing and recording it, or giving you suggestions or positive feedback, also called operant conditioning. There are some methods of neurofeedback that produce the needed frequency to heal your brain.

For a easier to understand’s example, neurofeedback is similar to your car hitting a pot hole, and your tires are now out of alignment. When you took your car for an inspection, they also saw that the muffler had a hole in it and needed replacing. Neurofeedback can assess the cause and rather than replace, it helps your brain heal itself, similar to how physical therapy helps your body repair itself, even if you broke a limb. The main difference is that if you have lost a limb, you would probably need a prosthesic.

As mentioned, I have a hole in my brain, yet with neurofeedback and through neuroplasticity my brain is able to make new pathways and hubs so I can think, feel and remember as I previously did, just a bit slower, since the hub is no longer at the previous location. It gives needed feedback in the method that the brain understands through the external/internal interface to help the brain heal and regulate itself through neuroplasticity.

Any Age Requirement?

We always say that as long as one has a brain, one can attend the Neurofeedback therapy. There is no maximum age for trainee, however we recommend that child who is above 3 years old.

Who can Benefit from Neurofeedback therapy?

Basically anyone who is looking to improve brain function, study/work performance, physical and mental health.

There are numerous successful cases in

  1. Overcoming learning difficulties: Weak academic performance, unable to master a particular subject, slow learner, Dyslexia;
  2. Reducing behavior Issues: Short concentration span, hyperactive, destructive action;
  3. Stabilizing emotional problems: Temper tantrum, stress. anxiety, moody;
  4. Improving development disorders, including Autistic, ADHD, ADD, Down Syndrome, Speech disorder and many more
  5. Easing mental Conditions, for example, Depression, Schizophrenia and Dissociation Personality Disorder
  6. Relieving age-related diseases: Parkinson, Alzheimer
  7. Helping those who suffer from Insomia and Sleep Apnea;
  8. Obtaining better athletic abilities in badminton, golfing, swimming;
  9. Peak performance at career

….and many more.
